Celebration of AAPI

The term AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) is frequently used today. While it serves as a useful umbrella for community organizing and advocacy, some argue that it tends to privilege East Asians, such as those from China, Japan, and Korea, while overlooking the identities of other cultural groups, like South Asians. Additionally, combining data from Asians and Pacific Islanders can obscure significant economic, educational, and health disparities within these groups.
Recently, the term APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) has emerged to be more inclusive, specifically acknowledging South Asian identities. During AAPI Heritage Month, we are committed to amplifying diverse South Asian voices and providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and connection rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).
